This course deals with The Two important systems in the human body; the blood and lymphoid systems. Nevertheless both are also related functionally and structurally.
The Blood is traditionally the elixir of life responsible for hemostasis, nutrition, carrying oxygen, nutrients and wastes. Protection or defense is a crucial function that is partially achieved by defense cells and molecules carried by blood and contained in the immune system. On the other hand, in disease conditions, for example neoplasia of either system overlaps or compromises the other.
This Course deals with Nutrition and Metabolism and it covers with importance of food, its elements and constitutes. The course provides an introduction in understanding of human requirements of nutrients in health and different diseases. This course focuses on principles of nutritional counseling and recognizing nutritional deficiency diseases and how to evaluate the nutritional status. In the other part of the course, metabolism, students will be familiarized with the digestion and absorption of all constituents of food and human diet, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids in addition to minerals and vitamins. Finally, metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids in addition to minerals and vitamins will be discussed and an overall revision of integrated metabolism and its hormonal regulation.
Pathology is considered to be the basis of disease. This block on “Principles of Disease-1” is, therefore, a vital one since its main objective is to provide students with sufficient knowledge of basic concepts of pathology and microbiology with some inputs from molecular biology and pharmacology. The need for this block to precede the integrated blocks on „systems‟ is, therefore, quite obvious. Basic concepts of processes like infections, inflammations, repair, hemodynamic disorders including thrombosis, embolism, infarction and shock as well as neoplasia, all of which cause most of the morbidity and mortality in the world, are introduced in the block to prepare the ground for the more in-depth study of the various organ systems of the body.
This course deals with Health Care System and it covers Health Care Management and Health Care Administration. This course focuses on type of organizations, building of teams, on different styles of leadership, and different levels of health care system are also elaborated. Students will understand Quality and its application in Health Care Services better.
This course deals with Molecular Genetics and covers all chromosomes, chromosomal map, genes, chromosomal aberrations and mutation. Understand the genetic control of cell function and protein biosynthesis. This course elaborates the basic laboratory techniques used in screening and diagnosis of genetic disorders and pre-marital screening. Finally students will understand the genetic engineering by introducing the concepts and principles of gene therapy.
The aim of this block is to facilitate the learning process through which the students will acquire a thorough knowledge about the process of fertilization, embryological development, intrauterine growth and the physiology of pregnancy. They will also acquire knowledge about growth and development during infancy and early childhood with special emphasis on nutrition. It is also an aim of this block to guide students towards the adolescent period and make them learn about physical, psychological and hormonal changes occurring during this phase. An integral part of this block is to make the students realize and gain knowledge about the health needs of the elderly in the society and the provision of health care facilities for them.
This course deals with Body Structure and its functions; it covers the cells, tissues, and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive and urinary systems. It focuses to make students understand the concepts of metabolism, fluid and electrolyte balance and acid-base balance. Finally emphasis is given on students to understand the temperature regulation and general concepts of pharmacology.
A clinical skill is part of the curriculum that deals basically with learning of skills (method of examination). In addition to learning skills it deals with the understanding of the basic concepts of skills and its meaning not only the technical part of the a skill.
